Military history ca 1850 to 1865

Am trying to find the military history of my great-grandfather Peter Friedrich Kuskopf who I am told was in the Prussian army. He emigrated to Australia in 1865. His birth date is 18 June 1831and he was born in Hemme, Schleswig-Holstein/Denmark

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Hello,
he was born 1831, so he must done his militay-service around 1848-1855. And after the Second Schleswig War (1864) he emigrated to Australia.
But before 1864 this area was danish (Duchy of Schleswig) - so you are sure that he was in a prussian unit? I think all german units in this area of Schleswig
are established in the year 1866. Just some thoughts - I cannot answer unerringly, it's not easy to find clear informations about this period of time. ;)
