Triest und Krain, Rudolf Perz

Hello! I am trying to trace my Great Grandfather's family. His name was Rudolf Perz and it is said that he was born in Triest, Austria (when it was still Austria) on 23 March 1883. He immigrated to the US in 1899. Very little is known. He had a brother Eugen Baldasar Perz born 13 Dec 1884 also in Triest. I'm not sure if they were half siblings or what. I have his naturalization certificate from here in the US as well as his passport, he last lived in Schalkendorf, Gottschee Krain. Was said to be German but naturalization went through as Italian because Triest was already a part of Italy at the time he was naturalized. Super lost, any help is GREATLY appreciated!!

He lived in Chicago in the US.

Hi Beth

Do you know the Gotscheer Heritage and Genealogy Association?

https://gottschee.org/gottscheer-surnames/

Maybe you will find some information in the newspapers of Austria and South Tirol.

Hi Beth

I think as Trieste belonged to Austria there existed no registrar's offices back then.
So in Trieste you have to search for parish records, but there is more than one parish.

Thank you for your expertise once again! I have been trying to about two months to figure out what parish it would have been , it's been really hard to find anything concrete.
