Need another geography lesson!

Hi all,

I am hoping you can help again! I am tracing another branch of my family. Several siblings in one area of the US identified Braunschweig/Brunswick as the area in Germany that they came from, while my direct ancestor listed Hesse. In reading what I can I don't know if B/B was considered part of Hesse or it's own region/area. Does anyone have an idea about the history of B/B and if it was ever considered part of Hesse?

Thank you,
Diann

Hello Diann,
in the 19th century Hessen/Hesse and Braunschweig/Brunswick were two different dukedoms.
