Gras family of bochum, germany

Hello I'm looking for any information on my grandmother Meta Grass born september 11, 1895. She arrived in the US in 1924. She always said she was born in Bochum-Grumme Germany. Stadtarchiv has no record of her birth but does have a record of a sister of hers born in 1892. I was just in bochum and wasn't able to visit archive. Her parents names are Johann Christian Grass born october 18, 1840 in Freienhagen and Wilhelmine Sophie Caroline Griese born november 26, 1855 in Syburg. My grandmother never spoke of her parents to my mom or me so I don't have much to go on. Thank You Nancy 8-)

If you found the record of your grandmother's sister, you know the names of your greatgrandparents. Please let us know these names, too. The more details you provide, the better we can help.

It's a pity that you didn't have the time to visit the Bochum city archive, because this is exactly where you need to go. In addition to the birth, marriage and death records you could have asked for historic population registers (Melderegister), which list the people that a family consisted of and the places (streets) where they lived.

If you use the meta search (Familienname = surname, Ortsname = place) for all the databases on Genealogy.net you'll find a few Gras and Graß including some from Bochum.

bochumgrumme, Thanks for your e-mail. I'd recommend to post the names of your greatgrandparents here in this thread. I personally can't help with further information on your ancestors, but maybe another forum member can.
Viele Grüße,
Simone
