    Well, it appears that the church books from this area are finally on Archion. I was expecting to see records in Schonsee parish, but I am not finding anyone so far. Kartenmeister has Richnau in Schonsee parish, but it appears that was effective in 1905....at a loss here. Any idea on the parish Willi?

    It seems that there is definitely a family presence in Steinau. According to Kartenmeister, Steinau is in Kreis Thorn, but Archion only shows a district of Thorn no Steinau Parish. I am finding stuff, but nothing for the people I am looking for right now! Thanks again Willi!

    Supposedly you haven't had a look-up on http://www.westpreussen.de yet. Steinau never had its own parish, but belonged to


    1) Gramtschen, Kreis Thorn before 1803
    2) Kulmsee, Kreis Thorn from 1802 to 1902
    3) Gostgau, Kreis Thorn after 1903.


    Go to "Ortsverzeichnis" [List of places] and you will find some useful information.

    I did see that on westpreussen, but Archion does not list those names under Kreis Thorn. There is, of course, Kreis Kulm, but I assume that is not likely to be the same as Kulmsee (though I do see on the map that it is next to Kreis Briesen where Richnau records are). I continue my hunt! Thanks again for your help!
