Wilke Rudolf Janssen, deceased on 9 January 1808 in Steenfelde, Schulmeister

  • Dear Sir/Madam,

    The Dutch family Jansen, from the region of Twente, is descended from the East Frisian 'arbeiter' Johann Christian Janssen (Dutch: Johannes Christiaan Janssen) and his wife Engelina Mettjedina Oltmanns, who migrated with their family to the Netherlands around the 1860s. When it comes to social status, it is a somewhat strange family: most of the members were agrarian or industrial workers ('Arbeiter' or 'arbeiders'), but one member did marry a baroness (Elbartha Everarda Bentinck) in 1929.

    The ancestor of this East Frisian family is Wilke Rudolf Janssen (or Rudolph). According to the Ortssippenbuch Steenfelde, he deceased on 9 January 1808 in Steenfelde (East Frisia). The Ortssippenbuch does not mention his birth, baptism or marriage.

    Again according to the OSB Steenfelde, he was a teacher ("Schulmeister") in Steenfelde. He had a relationship with Margarethe Charlotte Lüpkes (born around 1738, deceased on 18 September 1818 in Steenfelde), with whom he got three children:
    1. Anna Rebecca Janssen (born in 1773, deceased on 4 October 1802 in Steenfelderfehn), who married Berend Hinrichs Coopman;
    2. Gaeske Margaretha Janssen (born in 1781, deceased on 20 November 1786 in Steenfelde);
    3. Christian Rudolf Janssen (born in 1784, deceased on 7 December 1832 in Völlenerfehn), who married twice: the first time (1 June 1781) with Gebcke Dircks Veen, secondly (28 September 1790) with Elisabeth Jacobs Rosenbohm.

    Does anyone know who Wilke Rudolf's parents were, or where I should look for more biographical or genealogical information? I would be really really really greatful for every piece of information ^^.

    Yours faithfully,
    Jaap
