  • Hallo,

    ich habe noch etwas gefunden:

Egidius Wenz wanderte am 08.12.1848 aus Gernsheim aus. Immigration: 25 DEC 1848 Havre de Grasse to New Orleans - ship Brunswick .

His first application for naturalization was on November 1, 1852 at the age of 52. He stated that he was a native of Hesse Darmstadt and sailed from Havre de Grasse and landed in New Orleans on or about December 25, 1848. He stated his occupation as tailor. He was 28 days in transit with his wife and family of five children.

Egidius Wenz and John Ritzert bought a lot at St. Henry's Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio (near what is now the Montgomery County Fairgrounds) for $12.00. The lot number was 105. This cemetery was used until the Civil War when Calvary Cemetery was started. In 1889 the St. Henry's Cemetery was closed and all of the remains were transferred to Calvary.

In the 1860 census of Montgomery County, Ohio, his daughter, Elizabeth, his son-in-law, John Peter Weckesser and their family lived with him and his wife Catherine. They lived next to Andrew and Magdelena Wenz. He was 60 years old, a day laborer. His real property was $1000 and his personal property was $500. His place of birth was listed as Hesse, Darmstadt, Germany.

In the 1864-65 Williams Directory of Dayton, Ohio, he was listed as a turner that worked for Charles G. Meyers. In the 1868-69 Williams Directory of Dayton, Ohio, he was listed as a turner at 219 Main St, the same address as his son Egidius.

In the 1870 Montgomery County Ohio Census, he is listed as Ignetus, a retired grocer with real property of $3500 and personal property of $300. His place of birth is listed as Hesse Darmstadt and was 70 years old. His wife Catherine was 60 years old. Living in the same dwelling was John Billmans. Also living in the dwelling was his youngest son Egidius, age 28 whose occupation was Wood Turner (day work) and place of birth was Hesse Darmstadt, his wife Mary age 21 born in Ohio and their son John 10 months. The census was taken in May.

The Emmanuel Church Death records indicate that he was 75 years and 10 months at the time of his death. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio in Section 14 - Lot 210 with his wife and children.
