  • Hello Kerry,

"Grün" is the guy who has his dwelling in the greenery (grün = green).
(Quelle: Hans Bahlow, Deutsches Namenlexikon, Ffm 1972, S. 188)

"Grünkowsky = Grün Kowsky": the name is of Polonian orgin. The suffix -sky or -ski is typic for locations and clans. That means Grün is from the Kowsky locality or the Kowsky clan.

"Kiehntopf" and Kientopf is the guy who has his dwelling in Köntopf near Köslin or in Konitop in West Prussia.

  • Detlef,

My thanks. this is very interesting. I will research the Kowsky clan and town of Köntopf and Konitop, both of which I have noted in my research. I believe I have seen a family website for Köntopf.

    Again, thank you.
