Theodor Lohmann and his son Peter Lohmann(b. 1890 in Preussen) re-posted

  • Dear all,

I think I posted in the wrong forum section so I move it here :whistling:

I am about to give up but now I found this forum and hopefully someone can help me, I would be happy to reward the person who can help me out.

I am looking for Theodor Lohmann and his family, I know ihe had a son Peter Lohmann born approx. 1890. I think Theodor was like his son Peter working with iron casting.

His son Peter moved to Bergen, Norway around 1910 and married a norwegian in 1914. Peter died according to peoples saying "at sea" 7 feb 1917, maybe he was called in to the german navy.
What I just learned is that he had a son that was born early 1017 but died just after two weeks. Again he was informed a few months later that he was to become father again at the end of 1917. After that he went to sea on a ship but never returned, there was no official statement so he was just reported missing and later he was declared dead. But nobody really knows what happend, I have searched a lot, thinking he maybe "sneaked" away to the USA or so.

The records from Peters marriage says he was from Preussen, born 1890 and that his fathers name was Theodor Lohmann.

This is all info that I have and it seems very difficult to get more information about Theodor and his family. Thank you in advance for any help.

It is a mystery about this Peter Lohmann ?(

    Best regards

    Henrik

  • Hello Henrik,

I just searched the forum and found input by MIchaela Ellguth and Joachim v. Roy regarding a Lohman family of smiths / forgemasters (Schmiedemeister). See #25 and 26.
    von Sieden

They lived in Moorburg (Hamburg), and the family can be traced back to the 15th century. The old links are no longer working, but a Peter Lohmann (not your one) is mentioned on the website of the "Schützenverein":

Their family emblem shows a wheel and transmission belt, a typical sign for a smith.

Some more findings from Google search for "schmiedemeister lohmann" or "schmiede lohmann" or "schmiedemeister theodor lohmann" etc. It's without difficult to do such a search and scan the results without a knowledge of German. However, it seems that there aren't too many Lohmanns in context with metalworking. I hope it helps.

There's a Lohmann family of smiths in Ostbevern, northern Germany:

    No Theodor though: http://www.online-ofb.de/namel…=ostbevern&modus=&lang=de
