  • Hello thanks. yes I know those which are born in St Petersburgh Russia, that Carl might be relative of that Nicolai Georg because his wifes name Johanna is mentioned in birth records of Nicolai Geogs son, maybe god mother. So I tough they are relatives. Im looking their roots in Germany , they all emigrated to Russia. Any help is welcome.

Hallo danke.

  • Is german research really this hard? I have asked 4 different facebook groups, geni forum, geneanet forums and this forum and no help whatsoever. Ill attach image here where that surname exists in 1890 Germany. So isnt there any online places where I could find these names? Or anyone able to help where to find? This is quite hard when I cant read german language.,

  • Hello Antti,

As a matter of fact it's not easy, even for Germans. I did some Google research, but the word "Wiese(n)" meaning meadow(s) in English and it is so frequent that it's difficult to find genealogical resources among all the search results.

Also, it might be that the name was actually not von Wiesen, but perhaps

    von Wiesner

    von Wieser

    von Winser

or the like. I found several people with these names. Please also give it a try combining the names with the different first names you mentioned in Google search. And check these variants on FamilySearch, too.

Also, I would recommend you post your request once more in the Adelsforschung sub-forum, because I assume that in that case Billet will benotified and he's an expert for noble families - if your ancestors fall into that category.

  • hi thanks for you answer, ok ill post it to also that subforum. I might get some more info later for wife of von Wiesen Pauline Hoffmann, If ill get his citizen ship request from finnish archives , that could reveal wherefrom Germany they are from. We have also some sort of coat of arms here in my relatives wall, but I cant see it now because this corona situation. But they said that this coat of arms would be Catherine the Great, so some sort of Russian coat of arms?, Im not sure if they gave new coat of arms for German nobles? Their son Woldemar was captain of Imperial Russian army. And the coat of arms is in wall of Woldemars oldest sons wife, and that son would been titled as Baron.

  • Hi Simone , yes I think that Fonvisin is different family, because that Fonvisin has went to Russia in much earlier, possble is that they may have common ancestors in Germany... this is russian page of that Fonvisin family, If ill get someday photo of that coat of arms in here, that might help also in research.

and russian Wikipedia about Fonvisin https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/…8%D0%B7%D0%B8%D0%BD%D1%8B

  • Here is those tree branch pictures also If you cant see them in Geni.com , Im looking parents and german ancestors of Nicolai Georg von Wiesen and Pauline Emilie Hoffmann , that other (Carl Friedrich) might be relative of him, because his wife Johanna Biering mentioned in church books of Nicolai Georgs son birth details. (godmother maybe).

Their son Woldemar b 1880 is this russian imperial army captain, my mothers grandfather. Russian page https://ria1914.info/index.php…0%D0%B5%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%87
